Great Photo links: Photography Pricing

These are two very different sites but I feel they both can help photographers navigate the challenges of pricing and web marketing. The Harrington site is unique because John has a price calculator in his site that will help photographers determine a price when a they are bidding on a photography job.
Teaching photography and business at the Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Missoula Montana for the last 4 years the question I hear most from my student are " what should I charge?" By going to John's site you can go to his job calculator and get a ball park figure of what an established big city photographer would charge. Of course a Montana Photographer, like myself works with a different client with smaller budgets so there will be adjustments.
Photography pricing is difficult and the key to coming up with a competitive price is to finde out what rights and usage the clients wants, what the competition might charge, what the clients budget may be, and the value of your work. You mantra should always be never under value your work...no matter how desperate you may be at the time....it will pass.

The other site is a great site about web market strategy. The author Matt Baily talks about the nuts and bolts of creating a website and marketing. It is great info and is a must read for any photographer thinking about increasing the presence on the web...our portal to having clients see our digital portfolio. Even if you have already set up your site this info will give you some good advice on how to draw traffic.

The Wedding photography season in Montana is coming up and I will begin posting about the Montana wedding I will be shooting. I am excited about them since I really like the couples who have hire me and it should be a lot of fun.
In addition here is a photo I had taken of my children Mahkesh and Metika...It was one of those photo sessions where I had some lights set up and I needed to take a few shots of my children to send of to our Nepalese daughter with my Nephew Trevor. Well I shot about 5 frames before they got restless but I think I nailed it... Peace
