Sometimes it is better to be a spectator than a hire photog. Obama came to Missoula on the April 6 and drew around 4,ooo supporter, not bad for a town of 60,000. I traveled to the bus with my family on a cold Saturday morning. We took the free bus to the UM campus and waited in a line that literally snaked a half a mile around campus. It moved smoothly and only took about a half an hour to get into the stadium, that seated 2,500. We got the seat furthest from the stage up in the nose bleed section. But fortunately we were facing the front of the stage. To keep things simple I brought my 200 2.8 lens, changed the white balance to tungsten and pushed my ISO to 400. I was able to shoot the event at 25oth at 2.8. Outside of my sons bumping my arm from time to time I was able to steady the camera and in my opinion came up with some great shots of a great man. He really does capture the positive spirit of how great this country can become with the right leadership.
It was an inspiring speech and it was great to see so many young people excited about politics.
Sunday we sort of rested..did a lot of errands and actually started cleaning out the yard, preparing for the long awaited spring. It was a good thing we rested because Monday was a big photo day. I was hired by the Washington Company to take lifestyle photos at 4 different locations in one day. My day started at the Missoula Food Bank, then off to the YMCA, for a shoot, not a swim, then off to the Missoula Children's Theater and ending the day at 8:30 photographing a scene in front of the Big Dipper (best Ice Cream in town) of Big Brothers, Big Sisters....Long day but a success......photos to be posted later...
