Moose in Montana

Well, I have lived here for two years now and I have to admit I have been a bit disappointed by the fact that I have not spotted a moose.  Actually I have been coming to Montana for over 17 years, for fun, family and photography,  and still have not spotted a moose.  I also have to admit that I have not gone out of my way looking for one, nor have I looked for Bears and Mountain Lions.
So when our family went to our Bitterroot cabin labor day weekend and took a brief hike from the Sam Billings trail, I was ecstatic to see a cow moose and it's offspring walking down the road. Like every dedicated and obsessed  photographer I had my camera.  I pushed my ISO to 320 and photographed them with my 200mm at 2.8. Of course I stayed my distance, while my wife held off our dog, patch. My 4 and 6 year stood by me as I photographed. They ran off into the woods within minutes and never seen again by me or my family. What a thrill. I am looking forward to more wildlife photo adventures in the fall.  I have to admit Moose are very odd looking animals and very big.  Nothing like Bullwinkle. take care,
